EXUBERANT MARINE LIFE

Not even Charles Darwin, one of the first biologists to study the extraordinary ecosystem in the Seychelles, could imagine the richness of the marine life here. These waters are home to the highest density of fish in the world and the habitat for over 150 tropical species: put on your fins and mask and see them for yourself. If you dive further down, you will find large pelagic fish and whale sharks.

The best dive sites in the Seychelles exceed all expectations. With four protected national parks and dive sites with depths of 8 to 30 metres, it is both a paradise for beginners and a source of thrills for the more experienced divers. The average water temperature is 29ºC, with a visibility of over 30 metres, creating the perfect conditions for exploring this paradise.

Shark Bank

To the northwest of Mahé, you will find an imposing granite plateau that descends 45 metres into the depths. Immerse yourself in this area of mysterious beauty as you swim next to enormous schools of fish. You can find groupers, barracudas, rays and whitetip sharks, and even dive with the whale sharks in the Seychelles.

South of Marianne Island

With a depth of 25 metres and strong currents, the south part of Marianne Island is one of the world-class diving spots for more experienced divers. Dive down to its enormous rock formations and peaks where you will find schools of snappers and moray eels swimming among large sharks.

The Aldabra atoll

This natural preserve is protected by UNESCO and has been listed as one of the Wonders of the World, which does not come as a surprise since it is home to one of the largest coral reefs on the planet, with around 3,000 fish per square metre. You wil even see the hawksbill turtles, a critically endangered species.

WORLD-CLASS DIVE SITES

Close your eyes and imagine whimsical granite structures, colourful reefs covered in corals that look like they are fresh off Dali’s palette, impressive peaks and walls that get lost in the depths of the sea. Diving in the Seychelles is all that and much more. It is no coincidence that these remote islands have become one of the world’s favourite dive sites.

The best season for diving in the Seychelles is from March to May and from September to November, when the water are calmer, there is greater visibility and you can reach the atolls that are farther away. To dive with whale sharks in the Seychelles, you will have to plan your trip from June to August, when the cold water are rich in plankton attract these pelagic fish.

Shipwrecks in Mahé

Diving in Mahé means immersing yourself in history. The four sunken ships in the nearby water have become some of the best dive sites in the Seychelles. The most famous is the Ennerdale, an oil tanker from the British naval fleet, but the most beautiful is the Aldebaran, which has remained almost entirely intact.

Dragon’s Teeth

You will be welcomed by the enormous jagged rocks that rise up from the sparkling water. As you dive down, you will discover a dreamlike underwater spectacle with hard and soft corals where parrotfish and giant rays swim, one of the best places to dive with sharks in the Seychelles.

Desroches Island

Set sail for this remote island, where there are still virgin reefs waiting to be explored. More than a dozen dive spots await you. You will be able to dive into marine caves, explore secret passages and descend along spectacular reef walls.
